A Green Star Civic Centre

Emergent Energy recently completed a full energy analysis of the new Manenberg Civic Centre in Cape Town. Designed to be far more than a standard building, the new Civic Centre embraces several technological, structural and social innovations to create a comfortable, efficient, and attractive public office.

The building is currently under assessment for a Green Star rating, under the Green Star South Africa (GSSA) accreditation program. A core requirement of this program is the comprehensive and accurate simulation of the building’s energy performance, using hourly weather data over a full sample year. Using state-of-the-art software, Emergent Energy developed an accurate model of the building, and carried out this simulation: demonstrating the superior energy efficiency of the building’s design, as well as its HVAC, lighting and water systems.
